We are excited to announce that we are holding a Chess Tournament at this years festival.
We are proud to be partnering up with Hamilton Chess Club and Junior club for the first event of the season.
Held at the beautiful Alona Hotel in Strathclyde Park on Sunday 11th September.
Event Times:
Play will start at 10.30am. Registration 10.00am.
Round 1: 10:30am - 11:20am
Round 2: 11:30am - 12:20pm
Round 3: 12:30pm - 1:20pm
Round 4: 2:00pm - 2:50pm
Round 5: 3:00pm - 3:50pm
Round 6: 4:00pm - 4:50pm
There will be three junior events of grading,
- Under 300
- Under 600
- Above 600
Junior Cost:
£8.00 per person, family discount: £6.00 for 2nd child and £5.00 thereafter.
Junior Prizes:
Trophies for places 1st, 2nd and 3rd • Medals awarded for those achieving 50% or above.
We are also delighted to be running an allegro, Open
- Major – under 1800
- Minor – under 1400 tournaments.
Adult Cost:
£17.00 per person, £2.00 discount for Chess Scotland members
£12.00 Under 18s
Adult Prizes:
Adult prizes are calculated on the day.
Time control as usual will be 25 mins each per game.
About the chess club:
The Hamilton Chess & Juniors Chess Club meet in Bothwell Bowling Club on Thursday evenings from Mid September and during the summer months in Bothwell Community Hall, Fallside Road.
Juniors from 6.00pm – 7.00pm • Seniors 7.00pm – 10.00pm
Although classed as our ‘adult section’, in practice most of our more promising junior players will also attend the club at this time. The club has members of all ages and abilities, ranging from beginners to junior and senior internationals, coming not only from South Lanarkshire, but also from North Lanarkshire, Glasgow, Edinburgh, West Lothian and Central Region.
